SALUTATIONS!

Good weekend of getting back to basics, a few whiskeys, a friend getting a knife pulled on him, and eating entirely too many sandwiches from hana .... Now that we've put that hysterical weekend behind us, we're currently recording the vocals for the new tracks.

Oh yeah.. I almost forgot that I had to tell you about Feb. 12th.. I know we had plans and everything but I almost forgot the details, so I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I saw you called, but I had that whole thing going on at my buddy's dad's garage..

Here's the deal - Feb 12th at The Lit Lounge (you remember that place it's 93 2nd ave NY,NY) with i am the heat at 8:30pm. It's only six bucks and we WILL have the new shirts in, as well as the custom stamped EPs. Both came out awesome, and we know you'll love them.

You know I think of you quite a bit, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you soon.

Big thanks to everybody that came out to the show on Friday. From where we were standing it certainly seemed that everybody had a blast. The new song "Donkeys full of Dynamite" went over exceptionally well, as demonstrated by the dance moves of our dear friend Petey-P. That house party feeling is something that reminds you of all sorts of things, mostly it reminds me of how we all got in this mess in the first place. Everything went well after the PA system was fixed. Be on the look out for the new screen printed shirts that I'll have info on as soon as possible, as with the custom stamped EPs.

It has certainly been a while since we've updated this. I'd first like to say happy new years to our extended family, the whole robes gang (you) - thanks to the people following us here, and on our other social media outlets. No matter if it's twenty ten, two thousand and ten, two years before the end of the world, another year too long, or just "2010" .. it's yours, it's ours, it's rolling along quickly.

First batch of poster entries/ show news!

So here's the first batch of entries for the Nothing Can Save Us poster contest. We received some others that were a little to vulger for prudes like us but those might go up in the next batch if we don't get more entries.

We have also added 4 shows to our calender for the next month or so and we're excited about every single one of them which is a great feeling. After Johnny Brendas on Dec 11 we will be taking our van on it's maiden voyage down to Washington D.C. on Dec. 12th to play Stereofaiths Feedback party at DC9. We played it around this time last year and everything about it was incredible (except our performance). This time we will kill it or die trying.

Then on Dec. 26th we return to Wilkes-Barre PA to play Common People. We had our first ever show there, our 1 year anniversary show there and now this will be our 2 year anniversary show. Every year has been better then the one before and this one won't be an exception.

December 29th we head to NYC to play the legendary Lit Lounge with Average Girl. It's our first show with these guys but hopefully not our last.

January 7th we're back to NY to play Pianos for the first time. More details on this show to come.

We will keep you updated on more dates as we book them, hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of this coast in early January.

Nothing Can Save Us poster contest..

First off, thank you to everyone who came out to KFN last week. The turn out was fantastic and we couldn't have been happier then to be joined but 2 great bands like The New Motels and The G.

We have decided to have a Nothing Can Save Us poster contest. Why? No reason...

What do you get? No idea... I wish I could say this was better thought out but really I just decided this about an hour ago, made a poster, sent it to a friend and much to my surprise he sent one back.

The rules to the contest are very loose. Any size, any format, any medium. It just has to say Nothing Can Save Us on it somewhere..

We'll be posting the first batch of submissions and some more details on what exactly this is all about in the coming days.

So we're happy to announce that on September 17th we will once again be playing Johnny Brendas along with Matador Records own Dead Meadow. Such an incredible band, we feel honored to be on the bill.

The night before The Horrors, Crocodiles and Love City will be playing JB's so we recommend you join us in coming to this show and then bringing a tent and camping out until our show. If Johnny Brendas isn't ok with this (which they won't be) we know plenty of abandoned lots in Fishtown we could set up shop in.

Aside from that things have been pretty quiet on our front as we have been busy recording boat loads of new demos and organizing a physical release for Nothing Can Save Us. Be on the lookout for a record release show and tour late October/early November.

Oh and thanks to everyone that came out to Sailor Jerrys to watch us play and drank some free rum. You did us proud by not leaving a drop left.

So this week we closed out our Silk City residency and had a blast thanks to Sammy, Stereofaith and Chang Chang..not to mention everyone who came out to party. I think we really need to thank everyone who supported the residency because we were apprehensive about it going in but it ended up being a lot of fun and a great opportunity for us to meet a bunch of awesome people/bands/dj's etc.

On Tuesday afternoon we finished mastering the Nothing Can Save Us E.P. with the guys from Fat City and we're all really happy with how it all came together. Our good friend Meridith Osifchin provided us with a terrific photo for the cover (as well as the one above which she took at our very first Philadelphia show). We are planning on a digital release for it this week on BandCamp. This will likely be the subject of an entire blog entry later this week so stay tuned!

We have also confirmed our first appearance at Johnny Brendas for Friday July 24th along with The Capitol Years and Photon Band. We couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to open up for two Philly bands we truly appreciate. This will likely be our last show until late August so make sure you come out!

The new album is complete and sounds awesome. It's titled "Nothing Can Save Us" Once mastering and art are complete we will be releasing the e.p. ourselves for digital download at a low price. Plans to make a more physical release are in the works. Along with this new record we will be launching our own website very soon www.robesmusic.com Once launched we will have a series of more videos and a stream of our new record as well. SO we've just finished a long weekend of shows and there were a few casualties in the mix. Lets start from the beginning..

Thursday:
We competed in Battle of the Blogs at the North Star bar. There are a few ways to look at this night because first and foremost we need to say, WE WON. We received 24 votes out of 28 people who paid to get into the show. To be fair, most of the people there came specifically to vote for us and we really need to thank you guys for that. We asked for your help and you came through big time. The bummer of the situation is that only 28 people showed up! I would rather have lost the battle and had the other bands bring some people out too. If each band brought 24 people the show would have turned out 72 people and that would have been pretty cool. Maybe next month! Oh yeah and the after party was fun.

Friday: pt 1
We arrived in Wilkes-Barre still a little shaky from our hard partying ways from the night before. We got to Cafe Metropolis around 7 pm and all I can say is, some things never change..and somethings do, so lets focus on whats old first. First off Metro it's self has barely changed at all. It feels almost exactly the same as it was when they first opened in this location which I estimate to be at least 10 years ago. Over the course of that time the members of this band have played on this stage at least 200 times. It was comforting to be back and see Donald Hosey still doing an amazing job working the sound board. Also the mind blowingly young crowd that frequents the place is just like old times. I hate to say I remember when, but I remember when I was 13 or 14 and first started hanging out at metropolis (and wasn't alone). Every band that came though used to remark on how young the crowd was but I feel like both then and now that's a good thing. Wilkes-Barre has always had a brilliant scene built through very young kids who go to a ton of shows and participate in the scene one way or another. We were glad to see them still hanging around. This brings us to the diferences.

First and foremost, a movie theater, a pizza place and bodega all about 50 yards from the back alley door of metro?! Donald Hosey not wearing a suite?!

ok I was way more into this whole things changing thing when I started writing this the other day, now I don't really think its neccesary...Lets just say we were glad to catch up with our buddies in Make Up Break Up who are sounding fucking awesome as a full band btw. Also we finally go to share a bill with Tigers Jaw and though we had to leave to get to our next show before they played we look forward to focusing doubly hard on their set next time. How does one focus doubly hard...like this... (you couldn't see what I was doing). Our set was decent but felt a little odd, not sure why. From what we're told the sound on the floor was good though and I had a blast shaking my new maracas.

Friday pt. 2

We loaded our gear and rushed down Main street to the Corner Cafe. I thought the only reason none of us knew about it was because we were out of the WB loop but apparently the place is only open a few times a month and has no sign. It is literally run by a guy who just does it for kicks. We loaded into the place and first thought was, this place is awesome. We were immidiatly greeted by some faces that weren't at the last show and some that were (including one old buddy on house arrest). Bobb Mac was on the tables killing the hours of time between when we were supposed to go on and when we actually did, which was roughly 12:30. We all breathed a collective sigh of relief that there was a nice sized crowd waiting for us when we got there. Before we went on me and Josh went to the bar and order 2 beers and 2 shots of Jameson which came out to a grand total of 6 dollars...not 6 dollars each. six.fucking.dollars.total. Amazing.

We played our set without much incidence and all felt it was def. better then our previous set at Metro, we even tried a new track, Soft Spite, which we've never played publically before. Maybe it was the super high stage or the cheap booze...maybe it was an older crowd or Alan Peterson. Maybe it was the man behind the bar loving the shit out of it... Whatever it was, it was a lot of fun. The only bummer of the night is that our video camera has since gone missing. We're thinking maybe whoever was filming left it on the stage and we didn't think to grab it. Hopefully it will turn up when we can figure out a way to get in contact with the bartender/proprietor.

Sunday (mayday)

We had no idea what to expect from Mayday. It was/is primarily a electronic music geered party in a big public park with a pond inbetween Kingston and Wilkes-Barre. It's the park we grew up sledding down the side of the hill of. Not sure why that's relevant but for some reason it is.. Some friends of ours organized the event as a fund raiser for a charity called Soldiers Angels. We thought it seemed like a lot of fun and a great cause to boot. Plus it gave us a reason to spend an extra day in Wilkes-Barre (except shafer who had to drive back to philly on Saturday and then back again Sunday morning).

For various reasons we all arrived at the park at different times about 20 minutes from one another. We rolled up to the pavilion and it looked like a beautiful day and tired/sick as some of us were we looked forward to getting up there. Shafers dog Byron made a first time appearance at a show and for that reason alone we knew we had to kill it...To our dismay we would hardly get the chance.

We went on a little after 3 and had until 3:40 which was perfect for us. As we got ready to start a nice crowd formed in front of the stage and the whole thing seemed very comfortable, this would all change 10 minutes later when at the very beginning of the third song we were told we had to stop because it was about to rain. I asked the sound guy for 4 minutes to finish the song and he said we had to stop now. We tried to go anyway so he cut the power, cool. They immediatly packed up the sound booth and moved it under the pavilion and made no mention to us about finishing until we had almost completely packed up our gear. It took about 20 minutes for it to actually start raining by the way. So all of this should be enough to be disgusted with Mayday but then low and behold one of our guitars had gone missing. Luckily today (Wednesday) we located and retrieved the guitar but for a few days it looked to be gone for good. All in all Mayday from our standpoint can only be described as a huge waste of our time. We did receive more then a few people who worked on the party and know we can't hold it against everyone involved. Live and learn though.

A Few Days Later

Ups and downs is the name of the game, good and bad in the past. Right now we are entirely focused on recording our new e.p. beginning at the end of the week. Ok I think my cold medicine kicked in because my heads about to hit the keyboard. If much of this looks like rambling, it is.

Ryan here with some news in the Robes camp...

We are hitting the studio at the very end of this month to record some songs with brian mctear @ miner street studios. As of now the plan is to get six songs done and release these songs as a e.p. on our own label in june. If you wanna check out some of these new tracks, we will be testing them out live at our shows over the next two weeks. Also keep checking back on our myspace page for a complete rehaul with weekly video blogs. And who knows maybe we'll start posting new material :)
